A tenant has landed a full-time job with the BBC after doing a course GHA helped set up – and you could join him.

Selcuk Colakoglu, from Castlemilk, took part in a six-month training course set up by GHA and media training experts Boost Employability, which works from within BBC Scotland.

He learned about broadcast journalism, writing and research, as well as audio, digital video shooting, editing and social media.

Selcuk, 30 is now working full-time as a production runner with the BBC.

He said: “I read about the course in the Key magazine and applied. The best things about it were the people I met and the opportunities it led me to. Seeing the set of Mrs Brown’s Boys and River City was fun too.

“Guest speakers on the course were really interesting. I like hearing how people got their first break – and they had some brilliant stories.

“To work in the media you need to be able to talk to people from different walks of life. Qualifications don’t count for much if you can’t hold a conversation with a stranger.

“If other tenants are interested in working in the media I’d tell them to go for it!”

Do you want to be like Selcuk and join the course? Applications are now open for GHA tenants.

You don’t need any qualifications to apply for the course – just bags of enthusiasm. You’ll get free training two days a week for six months at BBC Scotland in Glasgow. The next course starts in September.

If you’re over 18 and live in a GHA home, email info@boostemployability.org.uk or text 07595 372 085 for an application form. You should return the form by 7 September.

Interviews held in week beginning 11 September.
