Trainee Procurement Officer
Are you interested in building a career in procurement? Do you have strong communication, numerical and analytical skills, and a willingness to learn? Come and join Wheatley as a Trainee Procurement Officer.
About the role
Join our Procurement Fleet and Utilities team, supporting the Senior Procurement Category Specialist to source goods, services and works that deliver value for money for Wheatley.
You will assist with procurement planning, market research and identifying suitable frameworks, and support low-value, low-risk tendering using standard templates. This includes managing clarification logs, checking supplier submissions and preparing award documentation for review, with contract extensions and variations supported under supervision.
You will help monitor supplier and contract performance, maintain records, track review actions and support community benefits with contract owners, suppliers and Wheatley Foundation.
You will also respond to procurement enquiries and support guidance, training materials and intranet content, following procurement regulations, delegated authority requirements and Group policies to help manage commercial and legal risks.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, organised, and committed to learning and continuous improvement. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships. You should be computer literate and confident producing clear written communications and reports.
You must have experience of working in a business support service environment and be educated to degree level or equivalent. Experience of supporting procurement, tendering, contract award or contract management is desirable, as is business improvement experience.
A qualification in a relevant subject, or working towards a professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS), would also be desirable.
You will bring a customer-focused approach, act ethically with integrity, and demonstrate our organisational competencies: Think Excellence, Think Relate, Think Collaborate, Think Professionally and Think Innovate.
