Wheatley tenants move into their ‘forever home’ in Johnstonebridge
New homes for social rent in Johnstonebridge are nearing completion, with the final residents set to move in later this month.

The Wheatley Homes South development includes a mix of two and three bedroom houses and bungalows, designed to meet a range of needs.
Alison, 58, and Stuart Sim, 54, were among the first tenants to move into 33 new homes delivered by Wheatley Homes South. The move has made a massive difference to the couple, who both have medical conditions.
The couple moved into the new development in February, along with their two dogs.
Alison said: “We moved in about a month ago and it’s exactly what we needed. We both have health issues and needed a bungalow, as we were starting to struggle with the stairs in our previous mid terrace home. Being on the ground floor has made such a difference.
“It’s a lovely area and we’re just 10 minutes from Lockerbie and Moffat, which is ideal. It’s really quiet too, and our two Labradors love the walks around here.
“There’s lots of wildlife nearby, the views are amazing, and some of the Wheatley team are planning to plant a wild meadow at the back, which will be great.
“The house is lovely and warm, with air source heat pumps, solar panels on the roof and really good insulation. Now that we’ve moved in and have everything we need, this is going to be our forever home and we’re settled here.”
Alex Lamb, Managing Director at Wheatley Homes South, said:
“It’s fantastic to hear that Alison and Stuart are happy in their new home and see it as a place where they can settle for the long term.
“With the support of our partners at the Scottish Government and Dumfries and Galloway Council, we’ve been able to deliver high quality, energy efficient homes that meet the needs of tenants and support the wider community.
“These new homes will play an important role in helping to address housing demand across the region, and it’s great to see residents excited about starting the next chapter of their lives in Johnstonebridge.”
The new homes form part of Wheatley’s wider regeneration programme, which will see hundreds of new properties built across Dumfries and Galloway to help meet growing demand for affordable housing.
The development was delivered by Wheatley Homes South in partnership with Ashleigh (Scotland), with £6.24m in funding from the Scottish Government. The homes feature low carbon technologies including air source heat pumps, solar panels, energy efficient heating systems and enhanced insulation.
