A generous donation of £10,000 will fund driving lessons for young people, helping them overcome financial barriers to education and employment.

The Wee Bursary programme, run by Wheatley Foundation, supports people living in homes provided by Wheatley Homes across Glasgow, the east and the south of Scotland.

Ayvens, Wheatley’s vehicle supplier, has donated the sum to help young people move into training and employment.

Professor Paddy Gray OBE, Chair of Wheatley Foundation, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation. Support like this enables us, not only to respond quickly to families who are struggling but also make a meaningful and lasting difference in their lives.

“Helping young people learn to drive, gives them the independence and skills they need to access education and employment opportunities while also supporting them to become safer, and more confident drivers for the future.”

Ayvens was keen to play its part in helping young people drive forward their future careers.

An Ayvens spokesperson added: “We value our relationship with Wheatley and are delighted to support the important work of their Foundation. It’s inspiring to see the difference they make to families and communities, and we’re proud to play a small part in helping that work continue."

Wheatley Foundation, part of Wheatley, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Last year alone, it invested £8.8 million to create opportunities for people to improve their lives.

This includes supporting families with financial wellbeing advice, essential household items, clothing, education costs and access to technology.
