Pupils get stuck in for Wheatley day of action

A Dumfries primary school is looking greener and cleaner after pupils rolled up their sleeves for a day of action.

The Wheatley day of action also saw the kids get involved in tidying planters in the school grounds

Around 50 from Noblehill Primary School youngsters joined environmental teams from Dumfries’ biggest social landlord, Wheatley Homes, on Tuesday, 3 November, to help spruce up their school grounds.

Pupils and Wheatley staff worked side by side to pick up litter, clear weeds and tidy planting beds, as well as spruce up the playground, playing fields and paths around the school.

The day gave pupils the chance to play their part in looking after their school environment and see first-hand the difference they can make in keeping their community tidy.

Wheatley was invited along by the school after staff saw the results of a similar day of action at Sanquhar Primary School in 2025.

Alex Lamb, Managing Director at Wheatley Homes South, said: “It was fantastic to have so many pupils getting involved and taking real pride in their school.

“They weren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, and it was great to have everyone working side by side.

“Our environmental teams play an important role in communities across the region, and this was a great opportunity to show what can be achieved when we all play our part in looking after the places where we live.”

Rachel Chandler-Rogers, Head Teacher at Noblehill Primary School, said: “The children have absolutely loved getting involved and working alongside the Wheatley team.

“Time and resources are limited, so the day has helped us tackle jobs we simply wouldn’t have been able to do on our own. It’s given the children a real sense of pride in their school and means we can look forward to making use of the raised beds and other areas again.

“A huge thank you to Wheatley staff for all their help.”

The activities were part of an environmental day of action organised by Wheatley to highlight the work carried out by its environmental teams across the region.
